The
Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century, in reaction to the design
excesses and mass production of the industrial age, emphasized design that was
simple, handcrafted and true to the nature of the materials from which it was
made.
The creative influences of designers and artisans such as Frank Lloyd Wright,
C.R. Mackintosh, Charles and Henry Greene, Dirk Van Erp, Gustav Stickley and
Louis Comfort Tiffany, established an American art form which embraced organic
architecture, handcrafted furnishings, and fine lighting united in harmonious
style that encouraged a simpler lifestyle and a return to basics.
In the late 1980's, a Pasadena artisan, who had grown up surrounded by the
"ultimate bungalows" of the Greene brothers, believed that the time
had come again to embrace the design and lifestyle promoted by the Arts and
Crafts movement and created what became "Arroyo Craftsman".
Arroyo
Craftsman designs and manufactures fine architectural and landscape lighting
that honors the traditions of elegant simplicity combined with a quality
craftsmanship established by the founders of the American Arts & Crafts
movement. Arroyo Craftsman's creative interpretations of this design aesthetic and strict
attention to quality have made them the premier manufacturer of contemporary Arts
& Crafts inspired lighting.
What
makes Arroyo Craftsman mission style lighting special? Arroyo Craftsman prides
themselves on attention to
detail, hand finishing, and quality. Because of that, and an extensive
variety of choices in metal finish and glass combinations, Arroyo Craftsman
lighting offer the finest
quality and greatest selection in Arts and Crafts and mission inspired lighting available.
The
beauty of Arroyo Craftsman Lighting products is more then skin deep.
Arroyo Craftsman lighting fixtures are made of
heavier gauge brass than is common, giving them a more substantial appearance
and increased durability. The rivets used on many of our Arroyo
Craftsman fixtures
provide both beauty and additional structural integrity. Arroyo Craftsman glass panels
are installed with both retaining clips and silicone to ensure that they are
secured and won't rattle in the wind.
Arroyo
Craftsman
hand applied finishes are the best in the industry because they take the time to
let them "mature". Arroyo Craftsman's unique verdigris patina is the result of
an intensive three day process resulting in a complex and naturally aged
appearance. All Arroyo Craftsman Lighting hand applied metal finishes will continue to mature
and change with time.
Arroyo
Craftsman Lighting offers eight glass and two mica choices. Combine them with your selection
from one of our eleven metal finishes to create the Arroyo Craftsman fixture that meets your
personal needs. Each Arroyo Craftsman fixture is custom made, just for
you.
